Connect your AI
PressHelm uses your own AI account, so you choose the provider and model and pay the provider directly, with no markup and limits you set.
Supported providers#
| Provider | How you connect | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI | API key | GPT models; also needed for OpenAI image models. |
| Anthropic | API key | Claude models. Anthropic has no image generation. |
| Google Gemini | API key | Gemini models, including Gemini image models. |
| OpenRouter | Sign in with OpenRouter, or API key | One account for hundreds of models; reports its exact cost. |
| OpenAI-compatible | Base URL + API key | Self-hosted or other providers that speak the OpenAI API. |
Set it up#
Pick the provider#
In the setup (or later in PressHelm → Connections → AI & model), click your provider’s tile.
Add your key#
Paste an API key from your provider’s dashboard, or use Sign in with OpenRouter. The key is checked right away by listing the models it can use (free).
Choose models#
Pick a primary model and, if you like, a fallback used when the primary is busy. You can change models any time without re-entering the key.
Save#
When the site connects to PressHelm Cloud, the key moves into your encrypted vault and is removed from WordPress. It never sits on your site.
Which model should I pick?#
A strong general model gives the best results for building and fixing; a small, fast model is fine as the fallback. PressHelm shows the estimated cost of every request, so you can compare in Activity → Usage and cost and switch if you like.
Set a daily and monthly spend limit right away. PressHelm stops using your AI when a limit is reached and tells you in Telegram.
